Dag 20: Tema ”olika”.

As some of you might have read in the news Sweden had an election yesterday, and unfortunately a racist party is now part of the parliament. Oh yes. I´m ashamed and of course very disappointed that it has come to this.

I think this is a consequence of mainly two reasons. Firstly, people tend to get a little hostile towards other cultures when they have it tough economically. The unemployment in Sweden is quite high at the moment and since the last election the medical treatment insurance (which is mainly funded by taxes) has worsened and there´s A LOT of people who´s very sick and is assumed to work. We´re talking cancer patient who´s gotta go to the Employment office just a day or two after the operation. This is not OK.

The second reason is that the other parties don´t talk about the immigration. Well. Right about now we have about 15% immigrants in Sweden and not everyone gets to learn Swedish. I´ve been hearing examples of people which been here for FIVE frakking years and still can´t talk a word Swedish. Now that´s wrong, we´ve got to help them with education and jobs and integrate them into our society. My mom is a Swedish teatcher for immigrants and I can´t count the times she´s been feeling desperate over the bureaucracy when it comes to the education.

So this is the situation – we can barely TALK about the immigrants without others thinking that we´re racist. Pathetic.

As I said I´m ashamed. I´ve always encouraged everyone to learn about other cultures and as some of you might remember I´ve studied cultural anthropology, indigenous people as well as courses in undeveloped countries. I believe it´s essential to accept other people.

The books above is just a small part of my library at home – I always buy the books to my classes. The dress I got as a child in West Africa where I lived for a few years. Yes. I can still wear it, although it´s a little tight over the boobies. )

The socks? Well. I was humming Black and White with MJ but I could only find a pink sock to go with my black one… *LOL*
